“Music expresses that which cannot be put into words
and cannot remain silent.”
~ Victor Hugo ~
What musician can’t remember the thrill of playing a complete song for the first time? What choir can’t reminisce about the roar of applause after a stunning performance? What soloist can’t recall the tremendous satisfaction of transforming thoughts into lyrics and tunes? These are unforgettable stirring moments the Foundation wants to nurture and encourage.
Music brings more value than its sheer joy. Research shows that children exposed to music tend to enjoy greater success in school and society. They score better on standardized tests, win more academic awards, experience greater intellectual development, and are far less likely to fall prey to drugs and alcohol.
Unfortunately, in recent years, Michigan’s public schools have frequently targeted music education for cutbacks because of the state’s budget crisis. The reductions are particularly difficult for financially disadvantaged youth who often have no other means to continue music education. Spread The Music Foundation presents a positive alternative that will create an opportunity for acquiring a lifelong skill as a musician and an appreciation for a universal language.
